Technician checking refrigerant pressure on an outdoor AC unit

About us

A repair company that starts with the evidence

SummitAir HVAC Contractors is based in Pasadena and works on the systems found in homes across the western San Gabriel Valley. Many of those houses are older stucco builds where the furnace sits in a closet, the air handler hides in the attic and the ducts have seen decades of summer heat. Our approach is simple. A technician checks refrigerant readings, electrical components, airflow, filters and drainage before suggesting anything, then walks you through what failed and why. If a fix makes sense, we quote it. If the equipment is near the end of its useful life, we say so and lay out the replacement path, including how current air quality rules and utility incentives might apply to your address. You get the facts, and the decision stays yours. That is how we would want our own homes handled.

More about how we work

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Measured diagnosis

Gauges, meters and thermometers come out before opinions do, so the repair matches the real fault.

  2. Clear choices

We describe repair and replacement options side by side, with the trade-offs of each, and let you choose.

  3. Local conditions in mind

Hot inland summers, Santa Ana spells, attic ducts and wildfire smoke all shape what we recommend for your home.

FAQ

Common questions

What should I check before calling about an AC that will not cool?

Confirm the thermostat is set to cool and below room temperature, replace a dirty filter, and make sure the breakers for both the indoor and outdoor units are on. If it still blows warm air, shut it off and call so a failing part does not damage the compressor.

Do you work on both gas furnaces and heat pumps?

Yes. We repair and install gas furnaces, heat pumps, central air conditioners and ductless mini-splits found in local homes.

Are there rules about replacing a gas furnace in this area?

South Coast AQMD Rule 1111 limits NOx emissions from gas fan-type central furnaces sold and installed in the region, and the district has been amending it toward zero-emission requirements. We check the current compliance dates when planning any furnace replacement.

Can I get a rebate on a heat pump?

It depends on your utility. LADWP residential customers can apply for rebates on qualifying heat pump systems after installation, within 12 months of purchase. Many homes outside Los Angeles are served by Southern California Edison, so we confirm the current offer for your address first.

Is the federal tax credit for heat pumps still available?

The federal 25C credit covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It does not apply to new installations after that date.

How often should my system be maintained?

A yearly visit before the hot season is a sensible baseline, with a heating check before winter if you rely on a furnace. Homes affected by wildfire smoke may need more frequent filter changes.

Do you help with smoke and indoor air quality?

We can review filter options, return sizing and duct leaks that pull in dusty attic air, then suggest upgrades that suit your system and household.

Tell us what your system is doing

Describe the noise, smell, error code or temperature problem, and we will schedule a technician to diagnose it and explain your options.
